Sureyya – Blue Jacquard Pleated Midi Skirt

$325.00

A blue jacquard pleated midi skirt with a structured, mid-century silhouette.

This 1950s-inspired skirt features box pleats, side pockets, and an invisible zipper at the back. The jacquard fabric holds its shape while allowing ease of movement, creating a composed, architectural form.

The design is inspired by Sureyya Kashgary, a Uyghur educator and founder of Ana Care and Education in the Washington, DC area. Through her work, Sureyya has created a rare space where Uyghur children can learn their mother tongue, sing, dance, and remain connected to a culture facing systematic erasure.

Uyghurs, a Turkic Muslim people indigenous to East Turkestan, continue to face surveillance, detention, and the suppression of language and communal life under Chinese state policies. The skirt reflects the colors of the Uyghur flag, while its hem carries a line from Mother Tongue (Ana Til), a poem by Uyghur poet Abdulla Ne’imi written in 1935.

The poem honors language as inheritance and memory:

My mother tongue,
my sweet language,
you give me limitless power.

With your kindness,
you grow a fragrant flower
in my heart.

Through you,
I learned my homeland
and the world.

You are my endless treasure.
