An ivory organza midi skirt with a soft, voluminous silhouette.
Inspired by a 1950s ballerina cut, this skirt features a full, flowing shape with side pockets and an invisible zipper at the back. The lightweight organza creates movement and airiness, giving the skirt a floating quality as it moves.
The inner cotton layer is printed with The Emerald Sun, an artwork by Afghan artist Sughra Hussainy. The print remains partially concealed beneath the transparent organza, revealing itself subtly through motion and light.
The design draws from a pivotal moment in Sughra’s story. On her way to art school at The Turquoise Mountain in Kabul, she was followed by Taliban men and escaped by blending into a crowd of women celebrating the Muharram festival near a mosque, where men were not permitted to mix with women.
Sughra’s work is known for its delicacy and intricacy, often evoking a sense of weightlessness. The layered construction of this skirt reflects that feeling, holding the artwork close while allowing it to surface gently through the sheer fabric.
The Sughra Skirt can be worn as a party, evening, or wedding guest skirt, styled with a blouse and pumps, or dressed down with a simple T-shirt and sneakers.
